Belt and Road Initiative

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a mega-development project launched by the Chinese government under President Xi Jinping’s rule in 2013, envisioned to promote economic cooperation and market integration among countries along the proposed Belt and Road routes spanning across Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. The pandemic has since disrupted transnational and cross-continental connectivities and mobilities, resulting in the stalling of numerous BRI projects including those around education and research.
